Furniture Technical Designer

About the Role

The furniture engineer is responsible for converting furniture concepts and design intent into accurate, manufacturable products. This position develops engineering drawings, 3D models, bills of materials (BOMs), and production documentation. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed engineering drawings and production documentation for wood and upholstered furniture. 
• Create and maintain accurate 2D and 3D CAD models. 
• Produce complete bills of materials (BOMs), cut lists, and hardware schedules. 
• Design furniture components and assemblies for efficient manufacturing and assembly. 
• Specify materials, hardware, fasteners, upholstery components, and construction methods. 
• Verify dimensions, tolerances, and fit between all components.

Preferred Qualifications

•  Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in furniture design or equivalent industry experience. 
• Proficiency with 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗗𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗦. 
• Strong understanding of furniture construction methods and manufacturing processes. 
• Experience creating production drawings and engineering documentation. 
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. 
• Experience with upholstered and wood furniture manufacturing. 
• Understanding of wood movement, material properties, and finish systems.

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of Furniture engineering principles and best practices 
•  Worked with Materials and hardware selection 
•  Experience with Design for manufacturability (DFM) 
•  Should know Tolerance analysis and component fit 
•  Strong ability to read and write Technical documentation.
